British Travel Insurance, while in the U.S.?

Hello, I'm going to California for 26 days this summer and am currently trying to find Travel insurance to cover the trip. I could go to Mexico for a day or two, so that should also be covered. I know that Boots of insurance, but it seems quite expensive. Do you have other options? Preferably, I would be able to walk into a store in London, rather than buy online .. Thanks
