Any general tips on travel insurance to travel without a specific date?

I'm going to China next month, but the intention my way back overland to the UK over a year or two. one long-term / backpacker would be good for me, but most insurance companies require a return flight to be booked. I only have a ticket no specific end date (only when I have money!) Ideas? Thanks guys! PS. I'm in the UK. I think we need a multi annual travel policy, and you need money to renovate after 1 year. Ensure that covers you for a long time, but it is possible that standard travel insurance does not cover your entire trip, as not coming home, then leave!
